Properly packaging the hard drive is very important when sending it out. You have to ensure that the package travels well.

It would be idea if you could send the hard drive or media in the original box it came in however if you have not kept it there are other ways to make sure that it gets to its desired location without harm.

  • Remove the hard drive or other media from the computer or get help from a professional to do so without causing further damage. Being careful not to touch the bottom of a drive, carefully handle it by holding it from the sides.
  • Wrap it in anti-static bag to protect it from static electricity.
  • Bubble wrap it for its protection. Don't wrap it in anything that will enable it to move around in the package; you cannot protect it too much. It is better to overcompensate than take any chances for what may be complete file recovery.
  • Pack materials around the drive so that it stays in the middle of the package.
